ΒιΆΉΣ³» eligible for Department of Education Postsecondary Success Recognition Program

The U.S. Department of Education announced ΒιΆΉΣ³» is eligible for the Postsecondary Success Recognition Program based on the College’s work to create access, affordability and inclusiveness for all students.

ΒιΆΉΣ³» was recognized as one of 100 associate degree or certificate-granting institutions in the United States eligible for the U.S. Department of Education’s Postsecondary Success Recognition Program. The program acknowledges colleges and universities that showcase access, affordability and inclusiveness for students from all backgrounds.

β€œIt is an honor to be recognized among the most innovative education institutions in the United States. ΒιΆΉΣ³» is proud to serve a diverse student body and works tirelessly to ensure successful student outcomes for all those attending our College, helping them create the life they want,” said Dr. Laurie Borowicz, President of ΒιΆΉΣ³».

The U.S. Department of Education identified 200 institutions β€” 100 predominantly bachelor’s degree-granting institutions and 100 predominantly associate degree or certificate-granting institutions β€” based on public data relating to equitable access, student success and post-college outcomes. Metrics focused on enrollment of low-income students and students of color and how the College helps these students graduate, transfer successfully and prepare for careers.

ΒιΆΉΣ³» has committed to reducing barriers and closing achievement gaps for students of color and low-income students. In 2019, the College joined the Illinois Equity in Attainment Initiative (ILEA) and created an Equity Plan with strategies to support all ΒιΆΉΣ³» students. The plan has yielded positive results, and ΒιΆΉΣ³» was awarded the 2022 Equity and Diversity Award by the Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) for its efforts. ΒιΆΉΣ³» was also recently designated a Hispanic Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education, with Hispanic students making up more than 25% of enrollment.

β€œΒιΆΉΣ³» will continue to find the best ways to support everyone who enrolls so they can meet their educational goals. This recognition is a great acknowledgment and reaffirms our efforts are creating success for our students,” said Bob Johnson, Chair of the ΒιΆΉΣ³» Board of Trustees.

By meeting the initial eligibility requirements, ΒιΆΉΣ³» has submitted its application for the Postsecondary Success Recognition Program. The U.S. Department of Education will review the applications based on how institutions use data and evidence-based practices as part of an intentional, campus-wide strategy to ensure students earn valuable credentials. Further results will be announced in early 2025.
